about the designer

An avid quilter for many years, Katie Friesen did not grow up around quilts or quilt making and probably saw her first quilt in a magazine. Katie believes that no other labor on earth can be compared to a hand stitched quilt. It is her desire to promote the craft of needle work in an age of mass production. Katie belongs to the Barnswallow Quilters Guild.

Katie Friesen was featured in an article in The Canadian Quilter (Summer 2006) Read the whole article - Katie Friesen ... Applique Artist and Quilt Designer. The Expression of Morris was named a winner in the applique category of the 2007 $100,000 Quilting Challenge. Katie's Ode to Morris hung in the O Canada Quilt Show at the International Quilt Market & Festival in Houston in October, 2009.

Expression of Morris was selected as an entrant in the applique category of the 2007 $100,000 Quilting Challenge and featured in the March 2007 issue. This applique masterpiece is based on the work of William Morris of the Arts and Crafts Movement. The quilt is alive with blooms, foliage and a little green creature in every block.
